Katharine Hepburn Was A Mega Lez, So Says Gore Vidal
It's not exactly new news that Katharine Hepburn allegedly scissored her timbers off back in the day. It was written in a couple of books, it's been in a few not-so-blind items and legend has it that Katharine would regularly put on a flannel shirt to shop at Ace Hardware (the original Home Depot) on Saturday afternoon. And at the launch party in L.A. for Scotty Bowers' book about the sex lives of stars, Gore Vidal told everyone that his friend Scotty is a 100% truth teller and he knows for a fact that Katharine tickled her coochie on lady tongue after lady tongue. The ESCANDALOSONESS (not really) from Page Six (via Queerty):
He vouched for Bowers, whose memoir reveals Hollywood’s sexual secrets from his work as a gigolo to tales about iconic actors. The revelations include Bowers’ claims to have set Katharine Hepburn up with “over 150 different women,” along with stories about Spencer Tracy, Cole Porter — even orgies involving the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Vidal told guests he’s never caught Bowers in a lie in the 60-plus years he’s known him in a town “where you can meet 1,000 liars a day.”
Katharine Hepburn is a four-time Oscar winner, a legend among legends and some hos might say she's one of the greatest actors of all-time, but if I was her, I'd say that my finest achievement was humping my way to the title of Old Hollywood's biggest lesbian (or bi-sexual) slut. Love her even more.
The Duke and Duchess of Windsor???
OH MY GOD! Can you imagine going to an orgy, getting there late and finding that the only unattached person in the room is Wallis Simpson???
Breaks the funny bone even to consider! hahahahahaha
I'm with Professor VP. Kate always played herself. She was one of the most overrated actresses around. No news that she was a lesbian/bisexual.
Gore Vidal and Norman Mailer shared witticisms and fisticuffs on Dick Cavat's show in the 1960's. Good times.
She starred in classic movies from completely different genres and decades apart, plus as an interview subject she was always wonderful to see. It's a shame that it's still a big issue but I also have to give it up for Gore Vidal. He was getting into slap-fights in the White House when Kennedy was President so he is not the pepaw to fuck with. I want to see a picture of him. He and Truman Capote were mortal enemies and how long has Mr Capote been dead? This dude HAS to be in his 90's so if he is still getting a charge out of exposing the sex habits of Hollywood Stars then I think he must be smoking something right and I'm all for it. He's a national treasure. Look him up on youtube with Bill Buckley. I think Buckley calls him a queer and shit gets real.

Well. I for one want to know every detail. But this book sounds kinda lame.
"even orgies involving the Duke and Duchess of Windsor..." Woo woo! Such a surprise. Not.

LOL
- Gore Vidal can eat me. I hate that assh*le
- Love Kate, no matter how or with whom she swung
- Outing folks after they're dead = not classy. That's why we're so classy here at The D; we out EVERYBODY (gay or not) while they're still breathing.
Say it ain't so. Not Cole Porter!
I believe it <3

One of my favorite pics is of Hepburn and Lena Horne, who has her own lesbian rumors:

I'm starting to wonder if anyone is straight anymore. I'm starting to get a complex here.
The celebrity press was completely controlled by the studios then. Despite the perception that everyone has a camera, some celebs are still able to remain closeted.
My theory about Spencer Tracy is: he was a tortured soul due to childhood sexual abuse (he was an altar boy). It messed with his sexual identity. His mom used to dress him in nice clothes and his alcoholic father considered him weak. He considered the priesthood briefly. Like many people struggling to deal with their sexual identity and self-loathing, he drank himself to oblivion. You always heard about the women he jumped, never heard abot any specific man. He prolly got completely shitfaced and hooked up with various studs and rough trade.
THE END
@kikichanel... True, Kate played a foreigner in "Lion" but, like Clark Gable, wouldn't do an accent, and never really tried to be
anything but American. I could add she played Coco Chanel on Broadway, but again, wouldn't dream of attempting an accent. "It's about me, you know," she told a friend about "Coco" the musical.
In her long, busy career, could she play someone cowardly? Play anyone other than a WASP-
perhaps a Hispanic or Jew? Someone insecure? Somebody stupid? Someone impoverished? Someone less than impeccably groomed?
Yawn. Anyone who compared Gore Vidal to Abe Simpson was right - now he's just spewing stuff that everybody knew/suspected. Whee, Katherine Hepburn was bisexual/lesbian. Whoopdeedoo.
Next he'll be rambling about how that Tom Cruise boy loves the cock. Wake me up when Grampy says something new.

Can anybody think of a Katharine Hepburn movie, where she DIDN'T play a wealthy, courageous, high-spirited American with strong moral convictions?
In other words, any film where she didn't play herself? And can you call playing yourself acting?"
'A Lion in Winter'. She played Eleanor of Aquitaine and she was great as the borderline evil exiled queen. But I do concede your overall point.

It hurts because you let your black heart beat for an asshole who can't even send you a "P.S. I'm about to fuck a hole that doesn't belong to you" text before fucking said hole that doesn't belong to you.
I just read the book and he doesn't really out anybody who wasn't known or assumed to be gay. It is more about his story of helping people hook up and arrange tricks in Hollywood. It is really wild, but I don't think anyone will be hurt by it.
True Barb.
And for all making statements like who cares they're all dead and it's wrong to trash the dead, I don't think it was mikes intention to trash anyone but to tell us who don't know that Hollywood -minus the sex tapes and hookups being publizied-was no different then than it it is now. And how is mike's posting this making it seem that being gay is bad when mike is gay himself? Sheesh.

true or not - kinda sleazy to write about it . . .
I have know Scottie in like forever and he is totally honest. AND he waited until all were long gone before putting his memories to paper. He was asked to do so for many, many years. He always said no. I say more power to him. He is a very important part of Hollywood history and his tales need telling.
Gucci, Kate's role in Golden Pond was a well-off American woman of high convictions who spoke her mind. Now, if Jane Fonda looked like Peter Fonda to you... it happens to the best of us... time to get glasses.

Oh shit man it was Jane Fonda and Henry her dad sorry for the mix up! And it's obvious that i haven't seen this movie in a while he he my mind is really going!

You had me at Mega Lez! lol
Yeah Gore Vidal's gone from being our greatest and most trenchant writer to a doddering old Abe Simpson, but I'll still take his word on this. There's NO juicy trash about the high and mighty the guy didn't know.
Who cares? I don't either. Kate was awesome either way. I'll proudly take her for my team though!

Kate Hepburn enjoyed sex with women? My goodness. Next thing you'll tell me Spencer Tracy was an alcoholic.

I sear it seems like every Lezbionic woman out there has thin lips. I rarely see a full lipped lesbian, they have thin top lips.
IT'S A GENETIC THING!
Rachel Ray to me is gay - I totally get that vibe.
Then again, when G.M. was dancing around in tight white shorts and neon gloves for Wake Me Up Before you Go Go, I had NO idea he was gay. I have made mistakes like that. I also didn't know Boy George was gay was I was only 14 and hadn't a clue.

Oh my god, is this even interesting non-news? I thought Katharine was a man the first time I saw her on TV and the fact that the media keeps 'revealing' who was/is gay is just so tiresome. As long as these things are treated as scandalous and people like Anderson Cooper cower in the closet, gayness will be looked at as something dreadful/shameful. Frankly, I think gaynes great and the only time I care if someone IS gay is if it's a guy I happen to be into (almost never). Leave poor Kate H. alone - I'm sure she's bossing God around at the moment.

I really don't care if she was or wasn't. I think it's terrible to make claims about people after they're gone and can't confirm or deny. She was, is and always will be my favorite actress.

If it was true and it doesn't make any difference to you, why would you pissed off that someone is talking about it. She's dead. Why would she give a fuck what people say or think anymore? So why do you.

Maybe Spencer Tracy was Kate's wingman and they went drinking and cruising for pussy together.

@every strangers:
Ooh yes I forgot about them!. They did a movie together, I don't remeber the name, where Jessica came back to him in spirit and they were sitting on a swing together talking. It was the most natural acting I've every seen in a movie. And coming back to Hepburn, my most favorite movie with her is stage door with her and ginger Rogers. He he rumor is they hated each other!

@Gucci, I've read somewhere that Paul adored Joanne but wasn't always faithful (despite the steak/burger comment) but who knows if that is true. I'm gonna have to google those other two!
Since ho-wood is a mecca of sin I imagine it would take a larger than life person to avoid all of the temptations, but it's nice to think that they exist, somewhere.

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. And I heard Charles Boyer was deeply devoted to his wife who was a complete knock out. Don Ameche as well. So I guess it's possible!

You know what would shock me? Hearing about a celeb who is faithful to their spouse/partner, isn't a train wreck or on drugs or participating in gay/bi orgies and couch casting antics, and just goes to work and goes home.

Gregory Peck?
As much as I hate to say it, Gregory Peck was a cheat as well.
