Amanda Bynes Might Be Crazy In A For Real Way
Amanda Bynes' neighbors are collectively throwing an army of side-eyes at the media for painting her as nothing but a spoiled dumb stoner, because they think she has serious mental problems. Like "5150 this ho and get Daddy Spears to make her some Velveeta grits" kind of mental problems.
One of Amanda's neighbors tells TMZ that he once watched her have a serious conversation with an inanimate object and other neighbors have seen her talking to no one. They haven't told the authorities or her family or anything, because they don't want to get involved. Besides, when you go to the authorities and tell them Amanda is acting crazy, they won't give you a money order made out to cash, so it's better just to go to TMZ.
Some people who work out next to Amanda at the Equinox in West Hollywood also say that she regularly brings the crazy. Amanda always looks dazed, has conversations with herself, laughs for no reason and they say she's getting worse and worse.
Yes, Amanda could be in need of a 5150, but it could also be nothing. If you asked my neighbors about me, they'd probably say that I'm crazy with invisible friends and I regularly talk to myself in the hallways and the only visits I get are from the Fresh Direct delivery people and some dude with a bulging backpack that smells like Irish Spring and cheap cologne (that's my weed man). I mean, I talk to myself all the time. I know all of my posts read like I just barfed out the words in 10 seconds, but sometimes I put some serious thought into this shit. Finding different ways to describe the journey of a fart is hard work. So sometimes when I'm walking my dog, I'll write the post in my head and then say it out loud to myself. I'm sure many people who have witnessed me talking to myself have called Bellevue to tell them that one of their patients escaped to Brooklyn. "You better come quick and you better bring a tranquilizer gun, because it looks like he's taken a little black dog hostage" is what they say to the operator at Bellevue.
What I'm saying is that Amanda and I should share a room at Bellevue, because we're both fucking nuts.
Or this could really, really be nothing. Maybe Amanda's just talking into her Bluetooth headset? Because talking into a Bluetooth headset makes everyone look like a schizophrenic.

I don't think that Brit's family/handlers are hurting her, I just think that they took steps to protect her career, which is different from taking steps to help her. Although they could seem like the same thing, they're not.
Like the conservatorship. If Brit was on drugs, and the conservatorship allowed her family to take over her life and force her to stop using, some may say, "Oh, well that's a good thing". But it was an expedient measure that allowed a quick, forced "recovery", by undermining an adult woman's civil liberties and labeling her incompetent due to mental disorder, when she may not have a mental disorder at all.
Dealing with Britney as an adult competent individual would mean taking time (possibly a long time) to convince her to do what's right for herself and her children; dealing with the fact that she may not want to get help for a long time; supporting her through (possible) relapses when and if she finally wants help; supporting her through a long recovery; and finally, dealing with the fact that through all of this she may not be working, and that her career would suffer.
Helping Britney the fair way would have taken years, and she may never have come back to the spotlight. Getting the conservatorship meant quickly forcing a "recovery" (mainly by switching from recreational prescription drugs to other prescription drugs), and then immediately getting her back to business as usual. She was working on a new album within 5 minutes of the conservatorship being granted. Trotting someone into the spotlight immediately on the heels of personal adversity is not what people do when they care about you. But that step was necessary to protect Britney's career. It's not the same thing.
As for her seeming more mature, it's because she's probably now on drugs to make her more controllable (and to keep up the appearances with respect to the story that she's mentally ill). She seems emotionless/numb, can't perform the way she used to, is lacking personality....she's not herself. It may seem better than her getting in trouble, but that was never anyone else's choice to make but hers. For all we know she doesn't want to be treated with medication. Is she allowed to say no to that? She should have the right to refuse medication as part of treatment, but under a conservatorship, who knows.
If Britney's family cares about her, and isn't just trying to keep the cash cow earning, why aren't steps being taken to help her self-actualize and prepare for a day when she can control her own life? Every time she takes on a new project it's presented as a sign she'd doing "better than ever!!!", yet there's very little discussion of her personal growth. She's got handlers to monitor what she says in interviews, like she's a political prisoner. Is that something that she needs personally, or for the protection of her career?
Does Britney's father imagine that he's going to live forever, and be able to control Britney's life for the rest of his? Or is his plan to hand her life over to other relatives upon his death (Brit's brother, mother, sister, etc)? I suspect she got married again to get her freedom, but that her new husband just struck a deal with daddy.
Ultimately, I feel sorry for Britney. And I'm frightened that everytime a woman gets into trouble "5150" and "convservatorship" are shouted from the rooftops, as if its perfectly acceptable to undermine the civil liberties of an adult woman when she gets out of line (these comments were not publicly applied to Charlie Sheen, for example). This reminds me of the old days when husbands who didn't want their wives anymore could just have them committed to an asylum for "hysteria", and leave them there indefinitely, no questions asked. They weren't protected by the law or society.
And apparently, neither is Britney Spears.

True! Brit's and Amanda's cases are different. Amanda didn't lock herself up with anyone in a bathroom (not that I ever believed Brit would harm her kids)but she's still a threat to society by driving the way she does. And I agree it can be impossible for parents to control their adult kids...especially when they're not on speaking terms. I don't know what's Amanda's family situation btw. Truth is we can only speculate about what's troubling these people but clearly something in the milk ain't clean.
'We are responsible for what we do unless we are celebrities.'
Ditto on Deadhead's observation. As you guys know already, i have a bipolar brother. He is exactly how Deadhead listed to a tee. Unlike Amanda, he chose not to drive once diagnosed. He said is perception was so bad that he wrecked three cars including my own van at the time!! She fits the bill including it coming on at this age as Britney. The right meds does wonders!

Symptoms of mania - talkativeness (check) - distractability (check/ drives into others cars) - high sex drive (check/ had to let us know she prefers black dick to get it more regularly) - poor judgement, like quitting job (check/ she retired) - grandiosity (check/ presidential pardon) - reckless behavior (check/ bumper car Mandy's daily routine of driving w/out license and drugging in public). As a person with the manic type of bipolar, and whose family are all manic... I see her fitting in well with my manic relatives! It's right around the age it normally manifests too.
BreakinMe -- I'm sad to hear you've had problems, but it sounds like you're on the right track back. Plus having the right meds & doctor is the best medicing. And another big plus -- having a sweetie like Ruby to help you! Give her a big hug & kiss from Auntie Twat!!!
AtomicCity -- thanks for understanding what we go through. It's so frustrating. The worst part is the state is making huge cuts due to budget constraints because of the fact that the economy is still totally fucked up. And contrary to what people say, there is no sign of it getting any better. For example, you used to be able to contact the nurse who dispenses medication & takes dare of medication issues directly. Now, some idiot business person who has no medical background made up the rule that now you can't reach her directly -- you have to leave a message for her and she'll get back to you in 24-48 hours. That's dangerous when you're talking about people dealing with psych med issues.
i talk to myself all the time, and i love to talk back to the tv. if i get very excited during a movie, watch out. this is why i dont see films in theaters much. i can't not talk back and fuck if i want to accidentally do it and come off as rude and annoying.

For those of you either dealing with mental illness directly or with loved ones, my heart does go out to you.
As a mental health professional, I understand the frustrations of not being able to find proper resources to get the appropriate help designed directly for you. I consider myself lucky that I work in a facility that deals with predominently uninsured clients. And, in the event that an of-age individual needs in-patient treatment but refuses, the State in which I work actually makes an in-voluntary admission and five-day assessment go fairly smoothly.
As far as finding a psych who provides therapy, in my experience most psychs are used more for med management whereas therapists are used for counseling.
For those saying she's solely on drugs, co-occuring disorders are extremely common within the mental health community. The stats are scary high.
Obviously I don't know Amanda Bynes, or her issues, just throwing out my two cents.
More importantly, my heart goes out to all of those affected by mental illness--which most of us are in some aspect. Find what works for you and stick with it, there's a light at the end of this hellish tunnel (lame cliche, I know).

I know she's not underage but Britney wasn't either and her parents managed to step in and even got her under a conservatorship so it is possible to help. One just has to care. Britney's case was much more serious i believe but still.
====================================================
The difference with Britney was that the police got involved when she locked herself in a bathroom with her kids, then she was taken to a hospital and observed by psychiatrists. These incidents opened the door to the conservatorship. If not for the police and the hospital involvement, Britney would still be doing.... whatever.
I'm not saying that Amanda's parents are great (or terrible). It's just not easy to deal with an adult child. You can't just show up and start telling them what to do, even if it's for their own good. And conservatorships aren't just handed out. With Britney, it was a high profile situation, and there was this pr campaign for a 5150 that obviously influenced the court.
I'm not personally convinced that Britney is mentally ill. She seemed to have an addiction to prescription drugs. Certain drugs will have side-effects that affect your mental state. Using multiple drugs in combination only exacerbates the situation.
Because Britney is a huge cash cow for some people, they ignored all this. Instead of taking the time to deal with her/her addiction, and accept that maybe she didn't want to/shouldn't work as a performer anymore, it was more convenient to undermine her civil rights with a conservatorship, detox her from the drugs she was on recreationally, put her on new pills to make her more controllable, and trot her back out on stage.
I personally don't view the actions of Britney's parents as that of loving individuals.

Dog -- I see my psychiatrist at a county health department. The rules of the health department are that the psychiatrists do an evaluation of your your mental health and prescribe medications if necessary. Though they listen to your problems (to an extent), they do not do therapy.
He's just always showing kids feet in the show. He had a girl put her toe in her mouth, it's just odd. He definitely has a thing with feet. The way he shows the girls I find it kind of sexual but it's in a very subtle way.
Yeah, but psychiatrists ARE therapists, non? Why can't s/he do therapy with you if you are already comfortable? Do you just you him/her for prescriptions, then?

He would talk to himself, kind of mumbling under his breath, very strange. Then he accused one of the secretaries at our firm of putting a tape recorder under his bed and recording him but everyone ignored him for being weird. He'd listen to this small transistor radio during the day while doing his work. Then one day he snapped and murdered his wife & daughter. Needless to say, he no longer works at that firm and is now incarcerated by the state of Illinois.

Twat...I am so sorry about this. This has happened to me before with providers. One of my good doctors that I was seeing for a condition arbitrarily decided to stop taking ALL forms of medical insurance. My last visit to him cost me over $200. It was ridiculous.
I wish you all the best. Maybe your therapist would consider doing some payment plans or consider lower-scale cash payments?
OK, I just read the post concerning Bynes and Schneider. That site had a picture of the guy...wowwwww....horrible-looking.
If he did do this to Amanda Bynes, then I can understand what she may be going through. She needs to get help. If she gets better, it would be great if she could help out other girls - someone has to stop this disgusting cycle of abuse!
misslainey -- so sorry to hear about your daughter. I hope she gets the help she needs.
I've been battling depression since early childhood. I've been diagnosed with bipolar II disorder. And for one of our dear readers who once said I did an armchair diagnosis of myself, well suck it. I'm on great drugs, have a great psychiatrist, and had a great therapist, emphasis on HAD. The health department where I live has done a restructuring and re-evaulation and has now determined that I make so much money and they want me to pay an ungodly amount for my therapy that is not covered by insurance. So now I will rarely be able to see my therapist. This will severely affect my progress. When I went to the health department's business office, a very judgmental woman said, "well you make so much" (believe me, I don't) and then she said, "why are your bills so high?" I'm in my 40's, I'm not going to have some dumb-ass woman play financial planner with me; my bills are what they are. So now I'm even more depressed that I can't see my therapist as often, just when she had stepped up therapy with me. Unfortunately insurance doesn't cover treatment that is so crucial to recovery like therapy, yet they'd pay for me to see the psychiatrist every week, and believe me, he charges way more than the therapist does. Go figure.
Hekki, I was just telling my sister about Dan Schnieder and his foot fetishes and you wrote that comment...creepy. I'm linking two videos, the first is one of many that show his fetishes with feet and the second one is where they make a "Victoria sandwich"...I find it kind of odd. Maybe I'm looking too into it.

WTF is this MKUltra I keep getting earholed with?"
Well you know all the horrific experiments the Nazi's did on people, testing how far they could be pushed until near death and the effects? The research wasn't wasted when the allies won the war. It was found that trauma (torture, abuse drugs etc) can make a very useful mind control victim. The CIA continued this research on people without their consent and it's documented, plenty of people testified (as recently as 1995) and you can even find it on Wikipedia.
The more speculative part is that Mind control is used to make sex slaves, sometimes young stars - the people that use these sex slaves can be blackmailed through their peversions and illegal activity. The theory is that agencies like the CIA could be controlling prominent people this way. The crazy Britney type breakdowns are thought to be a 'safety' mechanism for when the victim remembers the trauma.
The fact that Dan Schneider is married to Hungry Girl makes me hate them both even more. Her food is disgusting, worse than Sandra LEe and I find it so ironic that she is married to that fat ass.

That's so weird that Hungry Girl married that guy. No wonder how she got famous. I didn't think she made any money from her recipes actually being delicious. Dog, I agree that there is no proof.
However, I think it's true that Dan Schneider samples the girls on his shows. Too much smoke.
Who's going to provide proof? The kids who are under intense pressure to keep their jobs? The parents, who don't want their cash cows blacklisted? The crew, who want to keep their jobs?
There's probably a lot of "I need this job" and "I didn't actually SEE it" and "awww, he's married. Why would he need to do that?" and "Well, I reported it, and I'm sure the executives will make it stop" and all kinds of nonsense.
For a really good example of this dynamic, look at Penn State. Or the Catholic Church.
ETA: They're not little kids, either. They're teenagers, so there's going to be the argument that they're not doing anything they wouldn't be doing anyway. Trust.
It's funny, because I just came from watching "Victorious" with my 8 y.o., and in the span of 30 minutes, I was treated to two instances of the "foot fetish".
I don't think it's particularly pervy, but it's totally noticeable as a "thing".
